Is Obama’s plan for ‘Universal Voluntary Public Service’ more correctly called: Slavery ?

Question by Rev. Cleophus: Is Obama’s plan for ‘Universal Voluntary Public Service’ more correctly called: Slavery ?
According to Yahoo! News:

Thu Jul 31, 7:06 PM ET

Election ’08: Barack Obama calls it “Universal Voluntary Public Service.” We call it a plan for national involuntary servitude. Kennedy asked us what we could do for our country. Obama has ways to make us volunteer.

Obama’s Orwellian use of the words “universal” and “voluntary” together is an indicator of an antithesis to capitalist society deeply rooted in his socialist associations, education and training. Indeed, in 1996, when he ran for an Illinois state Senate seat, one of his first endorsements was from the Chicago branch of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Require. Demand. Never allow. Obama’s version of “voluntary” service is more appropriate for Havana than middle America.

What is the consensus in CUBA regarding communism vs democracy?

Question by Sgt Slaughter: What is the consensus in CUBA regarding communism vs democracy?
Any Cuban-Americans that have contact with island, I would like to know what you think. It just seems nuts that this little island has remained communist all these years when bigger communist regimes have toppled. My perception from news storys is that the economy isn’t great either. I can’t imagine the lost tourism dollars over the years as I’m sure it has great potential as a vactaion spot. With Fidel’s ailing health now comes the propaganda from Havana about how the “Revolution will continue”. I suppose if the Cubans really want communism then cool, but it just doesn’t seem like they would.

Cuba IS a cool holiday spot. Many Canadians, Europeans go there every year.

Your question should be regarding communism vs corporate capitalism.

I think everyone is in favour of democracy, even people in the US, but not everyone has democracy.

Many people are even in favour of free market economics, such as for farmers and other independent commodity producers. Cuba happens to have this now to a large extent. The US agriculture system is slanted toward large state-subsidised corporate capitalist ventures, which skews or obliterates the free-market.

Few people are in favour of large capitalist and exploititative economies that have no social provisions for citizens as opposed to share-holders.

In other words most would favour popular (democratic) communism vs corporatist (oligarchical) capitalism, but the power of the state institutions run by corporate capitalism (military, police, education system, media, ….) mitigate against democracy, or even recognising the lack of democracy to the point of equating corporate capitalism with democracy.

Q&A: Worst “How Wrong can You BE!!!” New York Times news reports ??

Question by A B: Worst “How Wrong can You BE!!!” New York Times news reports ??
What was worse? When the “New York Times” reported a “A Workers Paradise in Russia” , the infamous Duranty “series” of articles, published when millions died of famine, or the Fidel, “I got my job thru the New York Times”, Castro series of articles by Matthews who has been honored with a monument in Havana.? Or—-

Or the 9/11 issue of the NTY that featured a fawning article on the FIRST terrorist to strike the Pentagon, Bill Ayers, who proudly declared “I’d do it again”?

The New York Times is full of biased liberals who could care less about truth and more about their own political agenda.

How do I remove private information that the receiver exposed to Web Search Engines violating human rights?

Question by Hara: How do I remove private information that the receiver exposed to Web Search Engines violating human rights?
In May 2004, my beloved 17yo niece was seriously ill. At that time a supposedly cancer-cure poison of the “blue scorpion”, “Escozul”, was advertised in my country and, desperate as I and my family were, I wrote to the manufactures in Cuba to make inquiries giving details of the young girl’s disease, asking if there were hope. My letter with my real name and private telephone number was published on “Havana Journal” in the “Cuba Culture News and Information” column, and was picked up by Search Engines. I recently found out and wrote to “Havana Journal” asking them to delete the entry from Yahoo, Google, and perhaps other search engines, because it is a violation of human right to privacy. They replied that they removed it, but the entry is still there. Could anyone tell me how to delete those entries? As a writer, my name appears hundreds of times in Search engines and, when someone is browsing for my articles and books, one comes accross our family’s tragedy and my telephone number!

You would have to ask the search engines themselves to remove it from their cache. Though the content may not be there anymore, the search engines won’t have gotten around to updating it again yet, which can ‘take months.
